The Xbox One X is the first Microsoft console with native 4K support at 60 fps for games is a reality that we already know all the details.

Xbox One X: The most powerful console in history

If we define the new Xbox One X as the most powerful desktop console so far, it is not a whim. Its technical file is a statement of intentions at the brute force level to achieve the main goal marked by Microsoft: 4K native game. We are facing the response of the company of Redmond to the PS4 Pro of Sony.

To achieve such a performance, Microsoft has redesigned the interior of the console and many of the components, mostly in the hands of AMD and with unique designs. The processor is made up of eight modified Jaguar cores and working at a clock frequency of 2.3 GHz.

XBOX ONE X
PROCESSOR 8×86 cores (2.3 GHz)
GPU 40 computing units (custom-made) at 1172 MHz
MEMORY (BANDWIDTH) 12GB GDDR5 (326 GB / s)
HDD 1TB
READER 4K UHD Blu-Ray

However, the real hit of Microsoft (and AMD) is in the GPU, which reaches a power of 6 TFLOPs, as well as an Nvidia GTX 1070 and away from the 4 TFLOPs of The PS4 Pro, but much more of the Xbox One S, which is below 1.5 TFLOPs.

The base of the GPU is made up of 40 “custom computing units” working at 1172 MHz. But it is not the most impressive. More clarifying about the ambition for the 4K game is the fact that they have 12 GB of GDDR5 memory for a total bandwidth of 326 GB/s.

In the connectivity section, the Xbox One X offers HDMI inputs and outputs, compatible with specification 2.1, as well as with AMD Freesync, which translates into full game compatibility and HDR video. And of course we have a Blu-Ray / DVD drive for native 4K content both game and video, as the new Xbox One X is ready to receive 4K content in streaming services such as Netflix or Amazon Video. For sound we will have the latest technology: Dolby Atmos.

We also have 3 fully functional USB 3.0 ports for use with external storage units. And all this despite the fact that the main hard disk is 1 TB.

Retro compatibility guaranteed for your games and accessories

One of the reasonable doubts regarding the release of the new Xbox was the compatibility and exclusivity of its games. The new desktop console is not considered by Microsoft as a model that will debut a generation, so there will be no cut in the catalog of games. Microsoft confirms what we have already advanced: the current console cycle model is dead.

It is partly because of this that the new Xbox does not come with exclusive games that can only be played on it. His audience is the most ambitious player, even the one who is already on the Xbox One and promises that he will enjoy greater quality even in his current 1080p games.

Native games in 4K … even the ones already released

The new titles announced by Microsoft and its partners can be played on both the Xbox One and the new console One X desktop. The same goes for existing titles and backward compatibility of previous generations that already are with the Xbox One.

Think of the new Xbox as a One that has been endowed with much more power to cover a true 4K game but at the same time raise the bar in titles that have not hit the market in 4K from the beginning.

Microsoft has already confirmed that Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Minecraft, Resident Evil 7, Final Fantasy 15, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands and Rocket League among many others will receive updates to improve their performance on the new Xbox One Scorpio. Some of them will be improved so that they can be native 4K player since the launch of the new console.

The compatibility between Xbox One and Xbox One X also occurs in the accessories, from Kinect to of course the current controls. This compatibility must be logically related to VR titles, where the new Xbox will be unique within the Xbox One ecosystem.

Xbox One X: Price and availability

As promised, Microsoft is planning its next Xbox One X console to hit the market in mid-season for pre-christmas buys. It will be available with a price of 499 dollars.
