With the introduction of the new iPhone X, the high-end smartphones that bet on the design without frames and with the screen occupying the entire front is complete. With prices in most cases quite high, this is the comparison that puts them face to face.

Comparison of the iPhone X vs Note 8 vs Mi Mix 2 vs LG V30

Within the most exclusive high-end of each company, brands are putting the focus on smartphones with the main attraction of not having frames. At least reduce them to the minimum expression, leaving all the front for the screen. Although the proposals of each company are not very different, there are some peculiarities to be taken into account.

Design without frames solved in different ways

The iPhone X has been the last to join the well-known Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (also the Galaxy S8 +, although we consider for comparison to the Note 8 for being more complete), LG V30 and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. In all cases we are talking about models with a screen / front ratio higher than 80%, with differences in the type of panel (Xiaomi is the only one that is not launched with the OLED) and less than half an inch diagonally.

THICKNESS 7.7 mm 8.6 mm 7.7 mm 7.4 mm
WEIGHT 174 gr 195 gr 185 gr 157 mm

As high-end equipment and price commensurate with that “privilege”, we find very tight dimensions both in weight (impressive achieved with the LG V30) and thickness for the screen diagonal that we propose. And of course there are first class materials in all of them, with the glass at the top. The protection against dust and water is also included in its specifications, except for the case of the Mi Mix 2 of Xiaomi.

A peculiarity of the design of these smarpthones without screen is that, except for the iPhone X, all others have taken the start button and fingerprint reader to the back. Here Apple has been the most wanted to risk and has eliminated, opting for gestures to control the terminal and facial identification to unlock and make payments. That type of identification is also offered by Samsung and LG models.

Different numbers, equality in power

Saving the distances by the differences in the screens and the approach to the smartphone without frames in the design, the rest of the characteristics of these high-end terminals is already more even. If we refer to experience of use, as lived with previous generations, fluidity and performance at the highest level are assured regardless of the numbers and the combination of processor and RAM they provide.

The differences are found in the possibilities of choice for internal memory, where the iPhone X and Mi Mix 2 offer the final capacity more broadly but nevertheless do not support expansion with microSD cards. Also note that both the Note 8 and the LG V30 only have versions with 64 GB of internal memory (there is a special edition of the V30 that does support more serial capability) or that the basic 64 GB iPhone X goes directly to the 256 GB, without the intermediate capabilities that the Xiaomi lets you choose.

The double camera is synonymous with high-end

And the cameras? We did not expect less from the iPhone X so the double camera is something that all these terminals have in common with the exception of Mi Mix 2. It was one of the surprises in his presentation, because we did not expect them to give up on it.

Of the double cameras the proposals are the usual ones. On the one hand we have the iPhone X and Note 8 that offer the same to the consumer: double 12 MP camera with the possibility of 2X zoom. Here Note 8 and iPhone X stand out with iOS stabilization in both cameras.

For its part, the LG V30 devotes the second camera to provide a wide-angle while hurry up to f1.7 the brightness of the main sensor.

The price shoots up

Although this premium premium range does not understand prices as much as others, the differences are quite significant, with the iPhone X taking “the prize” to the highest label and without any signs of going down. In the hand of each one will be weigh the extras and differentiation that we get by paying what they ask for each of these terminals, which is not little.
